Sobótka - where it is and how to get there?

This page is being written now! Since I add new information, please consult this page from time to time. If you have any questions not answered here, please let me know, this will help me to prepare a useful guide for you. Sobótka is a small town located about 35 km to the South-West from Wroclaw, down the mountain Sleza (718 m above the sea level). In order to get there, one should first arrive at Wroclaw. We are planning to organize a van or bus to take the participants from Wroclaw to Sobótka. Therefore we would like all participants to give us the detailed information about the time and place of their arrival at Wroclaw as soon as possible, and not later than on August 31.

We will be waiting on the platform with a red ACM poster for those who will arrive at the railway station. After getting off the train, please stay on the platform and look for something red and looking unusual :-) Do not leave the platform, because we might have problems in picking you up from the station. We will try to use the same technique if you arrive at the airport or bus station.

This is an old castle erected in 1024 (at least its owners say so, I don't believe it's so old).

How to get to Sobótka from Wroclaw?

In case you decided not to use our van or you missed your train, plane, bus, bike, etc., here is information for you, how to get to Sobótka from Wroclaw. If you would like to phone us to Sobótka from Wroclaw, the phone number is 162133. Since most of phone boxes use phone cards nowadays, first you should buy a phone card (there are cards for 25 (4.28 zlotys), 50 (8.56 zlotys) and 100 (17.12 zlotys) impulses; the smallest one would be enough) in a post office or in newsagents. There are also boxes for special coins (also sold by post offices and newsagents for 0.17 zloty each; one or two would be enough for one call), but they are quite rare.

If you arrive at Wroclaw Glówny railway station, the easiest way is to take a local train from Wroclaw Glówny to Sobótka Zachodnia (this is a train from Wroclaw Glówny to Jaworzyna Slaska through Kobierzyce.) The timetable is given below. Alternatively you may take a taxi, but it is about 15 times more expensive (expect to pay at least 50 zlotys = about $20; you should negotiate). You may also phone us to Sobótka, and we will arrange a taxi for you. In order to obtain some amount of Polish currency, you may easily exchange money in small offices (called "Kantor"). There is one such office in Wroclaw Glówny railway station opened 24 hours a day. As far as I know, there is no way to exchange money at Wroclaw airport.

Traveling by train

For those who would like to travel from Wroclaw to Sobótka by train, here is a timetable of three trains to Sobótka Zachodnia departing every day from Wroclaw Glówny. The fare for second class ticket is 4 zlotys (valid on July 16, may change!), the distance is 41 km, and the journey takes about 1 hour (this is a really SLOW train :-) Get off not at Sobótka, but at Sobótka Zachodnia (next station). Trains to Sobótka usually depart from platform no. 5 at Wroclaw Glówny station. On workdays (Mon-Fri) there is also another train departing from Wroclaw at 13:41 and arriving at Sobótka Zachodnia at 14:47. Important: the station Sobótka Zachodnia, as well as the main station Sobótka, are very small, they are train stops, I would say, rather than stations, and there are no: telephone boxes, taxi, bus stops, etc. near them. From Sobótka Zachodnia to Zamek Górka follows marked blue tourist route, but the distance is about 2 km. Thus, if you plan to go to Sobótka by train, first phone us from Wroclaw and we'll arrange a taxi to get you from the station to Zamek Górka.

Traveling by bus

Buses from Wroclaw to Sobótka arrive from Central Bus Station (Dworzec Centralny PKS), ul. Sucha (leave the railway station through the back door and you will see a huge parking in front of you - this is the bus station), at 6:50, 7:30, 8:00, 9:10, 10:50, 11:50, 14:15, 15:15, 16:10, 17:10 and 19:20.

Traveling by car

From the city center reach the A4 (E40) highway (follow the "Autostrada" signs). If you are already driving the highway, reach the crossroad to Wroclaw (so called Wezel Bielanski). Cross or leave the highway aiming at Jelenia Góra/Walbrzych, that is drive South and you will see a huge supermarket called "macro" on your right. Turn right and take the road no. 5 (international number is E261) to Jelenia Góra/Walbrzych/Swidnica. You will see the mountain Sleza just in front of you. In Miroslawice turn left to Sobótka (you will see a road sign to Sobótka). When you enter Sobótka, follow a sign to Sobótka Zachodnia (that is turn right on the main crossing). Drive Swidnicka street some 2-3 km, then you will reach Sobótka Zachodnia. Follow dark green signs to Zamek Górka and turn left from Swidnicka street to Zamkowa str. After next 500m you will finally reach the castle. A map is given below.
